Decision Making

When making a decision you should decide upon an answer that does the greatest good for the most amount of people. You need to consider who will it affect, who will it hurt, what good will come out of it, and does my decision follow my beliefs.

Delegation

An example of when I used delegation is when I was working for the Harness Horse Youth Foundation. My job description stated that I was an instructor and care taker for the children and the horses. One of my duties was to take the children in the morning down to the stables and delegate the task that they would need to do to care for the stables and the horses. I delegated by specifically telling the student what the task was that they were expected to perform and them told them which area they were to do it in. This system worked extremely well because then each person knew exactly what was expected of them.

An example of when I used delegation that did not work as well as I hoped was when I was in high school and I was working for Cold Stone Creamery. I was in charge of managing over the other employees and deciding what their jobs were. I tried giving the employees specific job tasks and then just expected them to do the jobs, but the mistake that I made was actually expecting teenagers to do what they were told. The only way to get them to work was to consistently be supervising them to make sure that they stayed on task.

What is a leader?

Leadership is not a term that should be used lightly, because not everyone can be a leader. A person is sometimes born a leader and others are modeled into being a leader by the effects of what has happened in their lives. The majority of people are followers; to be a leader it takes a special type of person to meet the qualifications to be held in the regard to be a leader. A leader is someone who can inspire people to do great evil or to conquer all odds. They hold a substantial amount of power and influence over others. They have influence over other and are able to inspire when the situation is desperate. A leader must be able to make tough decision and see that they are carried out, because they have to be able to choose between a single person and the greater good.
Leaders typically have unique personality characteristics. They are self directed, hardworking, persistent, informed, knowledgeable, and have skills such as public speaking, problem solving, delegation and the ability to understand and manipulate people. Leaders are also known to be able to create a bias and project it to the public to sway opinions.
A leader should strive to up hold a very high moral character. A leader’s reputation is one of the keys to their success. Followers must be able to rely and believe in what a leader says. When the followers begin to doubt what the leader states then he is no longer a leader because a leader is just a person that people follow and with no followers there ceases to be a leader.
